Upper Peninsula

The Upper Peninsula is a magical place. It is a nature and history lover’s paradise, with 300 waterfalls, 40 lighthouses, over a hundred historic sites, the majestic Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, rugged Isle Royal National Park and the ever-fascinating Soo Locks. It’s also far enough north that you might even catch a glimpse of the spectacular Northern Lights.

Quiet forests, rivers and inland lakes surround picturesque towns, while pockets of agricultural area dot the landscape. Hay, barley, cattle, potatoes, carrots, onions, winter squash, strawberries, blueberries, Christmas trees and cold-hardy varieties of wine grapes thrive here.

Roadside farms, markets and tasting rooms are the perfect place to sample the season’s bounty, along with buttery maple syrup, wild-foraged berry jam, wildflower honey and crisp, flavorful wine.
