Water-powered mills were once prevalent in Michigan, turning small, tart apples into fermented hard cider. Today, Michigan’s apple producers harvest their many varieties of juicy, sweet apples and make a wide range of products. Visit one of the many active Cider Mills around the state to experience the apple harvest first-hand and enjoy a refreshing glass of cold sweet cider, or a warming mug of hot spiced sweet cider (maybe accompanied by a doughnut?). For an adult treat, visit one of the growing number of Cideries that are bringing back the old tradition and brewing hard cider from Michigan’s harvest.
